Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) opener Virender Sehwag struck a quickfire 48 from just 20 balls during their tied match against Mumbai Customs in a concluding Group-C league match of the Rs 12 lakhs prize-money 10th All India Dr. D.Y. Patil T20 Cup, organised by the D.Y Patil Sports Academy, under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and played at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, Nerul on Wednesday.

The dashing Indian star started off in whirlwind fashion scoring 15 runs from the first over he faced from Atish Gawand and later he smashed 18 runs from the third over of the innings bowled by Aditya Dhumal as CAG raced to 48 for no loss in the fourth over. Thereafter he slowed down and was clean bowled by Alpesh Ramjani, who picked up 3 for 24. After his dismissal CAG lost wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 184 for the loss of eight wickets.

Earlier, Customs put up a total of 184 for six wickets in 20 overs. Sachin Wagh was unbeaten on 67 and Balkrishna Shirke made 27. Jalaz Saxena (3/33) was the best bowler for CAG.

Both CAG and Customs progressed to the quarter-finals from this group.

In a Group-A match, ONGC recorded a solid nine-wicket win over Andhra Bank. Batting first Andhra Bank managed to put up a total of 113 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. G.H. Vihari was the onl;y batsman to get a decent score of 34runs, while Surabh Kumar grabbed 3 wickets for 22 uns.

In reply, ONGC comfortably scored 116 for 1 wicket in 13.5 overs. Manan Vora struck 61runs and Unmukt Chand made a solid 43 runs for the victors.

Group A: Andhra Bank: 113 for 8 wickets in 20 overs (G.H. Vihari 34, Amol Shinde 16, Surabh Kumar 3/22) lost to ONGC 116 for 1 wicket in 13.5 overs (Manan Vora 61, Unmukt Chand 43; Savesh Kumar 1/26) by 9 wickets.

Group B: Mumbai Customs: 184 for 6 wickets in 20 overs (Sachin Wagh 67 n.o., Balakrishna Shirke 27; Jalaz Saxena 3/33) match tied with Comptroller and Auditor General of India 184 for 8 wickets in 20 overs (Virender Sehwag 48, Bravesh Shetty 27; Alpesh Ramjani 3/24).

Group C: BPCL 169 for 5 wickets in 20 overs (Anup Revandkar 81, Uday Kaul 64; Alfred Absolem 2/38) beat State Bank of Hyderabad 151 all out in 17.4 overs (B. Sumanth 34; Bhavin Thakkar 3/25, Abhishek Nayar 2/28) by 18 runs.

Group D: Reliance 1 150 for 7 wickets in 20 overs (Parthiv Patel 41, Yousuf Pathan 40; Prathamesh Dhake 2/29) beat D.Y. Patil ‘B’ 120 all out in 19.1 overs (Shashank Singh 33, Dinesh Salunkhe 25; Jasprit Bumrah 3/23, Akshar Patel 2/23) by 30 runs.

Quarter-final line-up: 9.45 am: ONGC vs SBT and DY Patil ‘A’ vs BPCL; 1.45 pm: Customs vs Indian Oil and CAG vs Reliance 1.
