Wimbledon action keeps Amdavadis busy

With zero cricket action, most Amdavadis have a respite of sorts with Wimbledon action going on in London. It was easy passage for tops seeds Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray on the second round on Tuesday.

Amdavadis had fun watching women matches where third seed Simona Halep and 2014 runner-up Eugenie Bouchard slumped to defeat at a sweltering All England Club.

Aditya Jain said that second seeded Federer, bidding to become the first man to win eight Wimbledon titles and take his majors tally to 18, who needed just 67 minutes to beat Damir Dzumhur, was a delight to watch. “His 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 win over the Bosnian was marvelous. Best grass-courter by far,” he remarked after the match.

Ashit Desai was happy to see two-time champion Nadal in action as he enjoyed a facile 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win over Thomaz Bellucci, his fifth win in five meetings against the 42nd-ranked Brazilian.

“He looked fit. He was moving well. But still, I feel a lot of room for improvement considering his past grass-court records,” Desai said.

Halep became the tournament’s biggest casualty so far when she lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 to Jana Cepelova of Slovakia.

“It’s sad to see a seed go out as early as first round at Wimbledon but the 22-year-old Cepelova, ranked 106 in the world, played really well to win only her second match on the tour all year,” Desai told about Halep’s ouster.
