Bana's Rescue Mission Naib Subedar Bana Singh
Period : 1987 Pakistani Infiltration in SiachenIn June 1987, a massive Pakistani infiltration was detected in Siachen at the heights of 6500 meters and more. The special task force constituted to eject the infiltrators by force included Naib Subedar Bana Sigh of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. The Pakistani fortress standing atop a forbidding glacier, bordered by an ice wall, 457 meters high looked impregnable. But this did not faze the Naib Subhedar and ked his men through an extremely hazardous route. As they neared the outpost, they dropped to their knees to crawl closer. Naib Subedar Bana Singh took the lead. He lobbed hand grenades, and shouting to his men to follow him charged in with a bayonet. Soon the post had been cleared of the intruders.
