General Information - Belize

Background Belize lies on the eastern or Caribbean coast of Central America, bounded on the north and part of the west by Mexico, and on the south and the remainder of the west by Guatemala. Belize is the most sparsely populated nation in Central America otherwise a melting pot of many races with an estimated population of approximately 274 000.With many tourists, the Belize resorts are very popular for some great relaxation time. Territorial disputes between the UK and Guatemala delayed the independence of Belize until 1981. Guatemala refused to recognize the new nation until 1992.
