Registered on September 25, 2007, with the Registrar of Companies in Maharashtra, the company gained its license on December 26, 2008, by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA).

Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company has an initial capital of Rs. 250 crores, of which Bank of India has a 51% stake, Union Bank of India has 23% and Dai-ichi Life holds 26% stake.
