Hills versus Plains over Gorkhaland

One issue dominated the vote in Darjeeling today – a separate state of Gorkhaland. Broadly, the people in the hills want it, those in the plains don’t. They had 13 candidates to pick from but most prominent: Trinamool’s footballer turned politician Bhaichung Bhutia whose party has said a clear no to Gorkhaland, and BJP’s SS Ahluwalia who has said may be.
