Amid turmoil, an oasis of calm in Iraq during Ramzan
Erbil in the Kurd autonomous region of Iraq is a world away from the bloody violence that has marred the northern and western areas of the country. While the Iraqi military claims it has moved towards retaking Tikrit – former leader Saddam Hussein’s birthplace – the Sunni jihadist group ISIL is knocking on capital Baghdad’s doorstep. As NDTV travels through the northern Kurd areas, there is a visible calm as the pitched battles have not cast a shadow over Ramzan.
