Battle for Amethi: For Once a Real Fight?
Amethi, a seat held by the Gandhi family for decades, has emerged as a high voltage battleground in Campaign 2014. With BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi taking his battle right to the Gandhi doorstep, Mr Modi’s rally on Rahul Gandhi’s turf right before campaigning closed has escalated into a pitched fight between Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and him. In Amethi, Mr Modi targeted her for arrogance, attacking her for saying she didn’t know who the BJP candidate Smriti Irani is. Lashing back Priyanka said Mr Modi had insulted her martyred father and Amethi would never forgive him. From the ground, our special report on the battle for prestige in Amethi.
