Governments attempt to reduce poverty only on paper?
On News Point, we discuss how expensive it is for a family of four to survive even in villages and yet the planning commission quotes abysmally low numbers as benchmarks for deciding poverty. The Rangarajan Committee report on poverty estimates states that those living in urban areas spending less than Rs 47 a day would be considered poor while it is Rs 33 a day for those living in rural areas.
