India Matters: No job, no hope (Aired: February 2005)

In poll-bound Haryana, the mood is gloomy. In the last few years, 25,000 government posts were abolished, leaving 16,000 employees — like Niranjan Singh, 46 — jobless. Without his salary of Rs 10,000 and with little hope of getting a new job, Niranjan was hospitalized for depression and his college-going children had to drop out and find what work they could.
