The Social Network: As Delhi registers a record turnout and the Election Commission goes tech-savvy with live streaming of polling booths, though not all feeds streamed, social media has been feverishly prodding voters to cast their votes. If that was music to Election Commission’s ears, consider this: defying the model code of conduct, promotional hashtags of parties continued to trend on Twitter. Also trending was NOTA, the option of ‘rejecting’ the candidates. Does it all point to the strengthening or weakening of democracy? We discuss.
