Maharashtra cabinet clears quota for Muslims and Marathas

The Maharashtra government today cleared the proposals for reserving five per cent seats in government jobs and educational institutions for Muslims and another 16 per cent for the Marathas. The move is clearly aimed at reviving the fortunes of the Congress and its alliance partner, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in the assembly elections to be held in the state later this year.
