The Last Post Captain Dara Dinshaw MistriPeriod : 1948 Jammu & Kashmir OperationCaptain Dara Dinshaw Mistri was an observation Officer at the forward-most picket in Naushahra area during the Jammu and Kashmir operations of 1948. In December, Pakistani intruders seeking to capturer the base, subjected it to heavy shelling. But Captin Mistri refused to withdraw. He stuck to his post, conveying much needed information to the Indian units. Frustrated by his stubborn stand, the enemy intensified the attack. The Pakistani Sherman tanks, whose presence he confirmed to the Indian soldiers, engaged his picket for more then two hours, but despite the battering, Captain Mistri would not budge. He stood at his postuntil he was struck by a 75-mm shell that killed him instantly. For the awe-inspiring courage and sacrifice, Captain Mistri was posthumously honoured with the Mahavir Chakra. | Other CategoriesHero of Phir Thil Major Satyapal ChopraHavildar Fateh Singh Lone Gunner Sepoy Dewan Singh The Gallant Havildar Lance Havildar Daya Ram The Unstoppable Chuna Ram Havildar Chuna Ram Major Hari Chand Blood in the Snow Sepoy Amar Singh Hero in Civies civilian labourer, Ismail Mohammad Rifleman Dhonkal Singh Master Strategist Lt.Colonel Khanna Main CategoriesParam Vir ChakraAshoka Chakra Maha Vir Chakra Kirti Chakra Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak Ati Vishisht Seva Medal Vir Chakra Shaurya Chakra President's Police and Fire Services Medal for Gallantry Sena Medal |
