He died a Hero Lance Havildar Nar Bahadur
Period : 1987 Siachen ConflictThe 3/4 Gorkha Rifles was deployed in the Siachen area in 1987. Lance Havildar Nar Bahadur Ale commanded a machine gun detachment at this post. The Pakistanis launched a heavy artillery attack on the post on 23 September but were driven back by accurate machine gun firing directed at them by the Lance Havildar. The enemy came back the following night but they could not get past Nar Bahadur's death spewing machine gun. An artillery shell hit the Lance Havildar and he started bleeding profusely but he kept on firing. It was only at the end of teh battle that he let go of the machine gun and then he fell down dead.
