Air attack Major Sushil Kumar Mathur

Period : 1965 Indo Pak War

Pakistan launched a fierce onslaught in the Rann of Kutch area in 1965. Major Sushil Kumar Mathur was in command of Air Operation Flight . Artillery fire was directed from the air on the enemy positions as the terrain was inhospitable and visibility poor.

Major Mathur led 45 aerial sorties, of which two ere extremely successful. On April 15, he engaged a convoy of enemy vehicles in Kanjarkot, destroying three and damaging some others. Two weeks later he compelled intruders to withdraw from Biar Bet after directing strong artillery fire on them. An enemy ammunition dump and three vehicles were damaged.

Major Mathur was awarded the Mahavir Chakra for his skill, courage and leadership abilities.
