Short description

Eclectic mix of old and the new epitomizes this lively heart of India.

Edwin Lutyens, the famous British Architect who designed Delhi called it the "Rome of Hindustan," such is the charm and the appeal of this capital city of India. The city that had taken shape owing to Lutyens' free flowing creativity and imagination today comprises the soul of India. Vibrant, Lively, Traditional yet Modern, Delhi is a city which boasts of myriad faces.

A tale of two cities, the New and the Old, Delhi combines them in a distinct manner. Beyond the maze of streets and bylanes of Old Delhi lies a past steeped in rich history. The centre of Islamic India between the mid 17th and late 19th century, the architectural monuments are a reminder of the Mughal Era. These have seamlessly integrated with the broad roads and the open spaces of New Delhi, the progressive and modern face of the city.In all of this varied exterior is an inner soul that is tranquil and uniquely its own.

Trivia

The Diwan-E-Khaas at the Red Fort was the place where once stood the famous peacock throne. The throne was made out of a solid gold frame and was studded with precious gems, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls valued at around 12,037,500 pounds sterling.
