BEIRUT: Syrian activists say a government air strike has hit a school in the northern city of Aleppo, killing at least nine people, including three children.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the local Aleppo Media Center say at least one air strike hit the Ein Jalout school in an eastern neighborhood of the city.
They say the death toll was expected to rise because there were many wounded.
The attack comes as Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar Assad try to wrest back rebel-held parts of Aleppo, the country´s largest city.
Meanwhile, rebels, mostly from several Islamic groups, are on an offensive elsewhere in Aleppo.
Pro-government forces often shell rebel-held residential areas, causing civilian casualties. Rebels also fire mortars at government-held areas, and detonate car bombs.
