18 killed in China plant fire

Beijing: At least 18 people were killed after a major fire at a food company in east China`s Shandong province, authorities said Monday.The fire broke out at 7 pm Sunday at a carrot packaging workshop of Longyuan Food Co. Ltd in Shouguang city. The fire was put out within hours, Xinhua reported.

Thirteen injured people are being treated in hospital.

The managers of the company have been put under police control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
