Islamabad: A man convicted in a triple murder case was executed on Thursday in Pakistan`s Punjab province.

Muhammad Siddique was hanged in a district jail in Toba Tek Singh city, Dawn online reported.

This is the first non-terror execution since Pakistan lifted its moratorium on the death penalty on Tuesday in all capital cases.

Siddique was convicted of killing three men at a theatre dance performance in 2004. The convict was a security guard in the theatre.

It was the first execution at the Toba Tek Singh district jail.

Anti-terrorism court, Faisalabad had found him guilty of murders and awarded him death sentence on May 16, 2005.

The convict had submitted appeals before the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which were rejected subsequently.

President Mamnoon Hussain had also rejected his mercy petition.

This is the 25th execution to have been taken place in Pakistan following the resumption of executions in December 2014 after Taliban militants gunned down more than 150 people, most of them were children at Peshawar`s Army Public School.
