Berlusconi faces parliamentary ejection vote

Silvio Berlusconi, the man who has dominated Italian politics for the past two decades, was expected Wednesday to be kicked out of parliament by fellow senators, because of a tax fraud conviction.

Italy’s upper house of parliament was already debating the issue, but its final vote was expected in the evening.

It was widely expected to go against Mr Berlusconi, since the opposition Five Star Movement and the ruling centre-left Democratic Party have said the former premier should not be allowed to keep his seat.

Mr Berlusconi is facing ejection because of a law that excludes convicted lawmakers from parliament. In August, he was found guilty of tax fraud and he is due to spend one year doing community service.
