Spin Boldak, Afghanistan / Chaman, Pakistan — October 15, 2025
A deadly overnight clash between Pakistani forces and the Afghan Taliban has left dozens dead and scores injured along the volatile border region spanning southeastern Afghanistan’s Spin Boldak district and Pakistan’s Chaman district.

According to Afghan officials, at least 15 civilians were killed and more than 100 wounded, including 80 women and children. The Taliban accused Pakistani forces of initiating the violence by firing “light and heavy weapons” into Afghan territory. In retaliation, Taliban fighters reportedly launched counterattacks, claiming to have killed Pakistani soldiers and destroyed military installations.

Pakistan’s military, however, blamed the Taliban for the escalation, stating that Afghan fighters attacked four border locations and that 15–20 Taliban members were killed in the response.

🚨 Civilians Caught in the Crossfire
Local hospitals in Spin Boldak and Chaman were overwhelmed as paramedics treated victims of shelling and gunfire. Homes near the border were reportedly hit, forcing families to flee amid fears of further violence.

🔒 Border Sealed, Trade Halted
Key border crossings have been shut down, halting trade and transport between the two countries. The closure threatens to deepen economic hardship in the region, where cross-border commerce is vital for local livelihoods.

🧭 A History of Tension
The clashes mark a sharp escalation in hostilities along the Durand Line, a historically contested border. Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have deteriorated in recent months, with both sides accusing each other of harboring militant groups and conducting unauthorized military operations.
As the situation remains fluid, international observers are urging restraint and dialogue to prevent further bloodshed.
