He was one of the first elected representatives to join the Aam Aadmi Party and also one of the first to be expelled by it. Former two-time Independent councillor from Laxmi Nagar, Vinod Kumar Binny fought the 2013 Assembly elections on an AAP ticket, beating veteran Congress leader Dr. A.K. Walia by 7,752 votes. However, he fell out with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in 2014. After having joined the saffron fold this month, he is contesting the Assembly elections on a BJP ticket from Patparganj.

You are facing your former colleague Manish Sisodia in Patparganj. What is it like to be campaigning against him and the AAP?

I don’t have anything personal against him, but my mission is to make people aware of the reality of the AAP. My main aim is to expose the AAP for all their false promises and outright lies. For instance, they had promised Delhiites better security for women, but couldn’t do anything about it. They kept talking about the Jan Lokpal Bill when there is already a Lokayukta in Delhi.

In 2013, you got a convincing victory from Laxmi Nagar. Why are you contesting from Patparganj this time?

The party [BJP] decided to field me from Patparganj keeping in mind various factors, including my experience. So far the response from people is good.

What is your agenda for Patparganj?

The concept of mohalla sabhas is very important to me, so I will introduce it in Patparganj if I win. Even in Laxmi Nagar, I held mohalla sabhas to listen to people and understand their problems. An MLA has to spend time with the people otherwise the issues of the area cannot be addressed. Apart from that, the BJP has already made it clear what it stands for, whether it is women’s security or development.

Who do you see as your primary competition?

I don’t consider any of the candidates as competition. The BJP’s popularity is at a high and people are seeing through the lies of the AAP and the Congress. If you look at the Congress’ manifesto, it sounds just like the AAP’s. Both these parties are only interested in making false promises to people.
