The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ruled that the ban on plying of e-rickshaws on the roads of the Capital will continue till the rules and regulations for them are framed by the Union Road Transport Ministry.

A Division Bench comprising Justice B. D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul dismissed the Union Government’s plea to allow the battery-operated rickshaws to ply till the rules were evolved for regulating them under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The Court’s order came on a public interest writ petition moved by a social activist, Shanawaz Khan, seeking regulation of e-rickshaws in the Capital, as they were posing a threat to the public and the traffic. The Court had imposed a ban on e-rickshaws through its interim orders on July 31.
