Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited his predecessor Manmohan Singh as a special gesture to make a courtesy call. Narendra Modi had been sworn in as the Prime Minister in a ceremony on 26th May Monday at 6pm.

Modi took charge of the Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday morning, and he drove to 3, Motilal Nehru Place, the new residence of Manmohan Singh to see him in the evening.

Manmohan Singh and his Wife, Gursharan Kaur who shifted to the new residence after attending the swearing-in ceremony of Modi at the Rashtrapati Bhawan last evening, welcomed Modi.

Mr. and Mrs. Singh vacated the 7, Race Course Road, the prime minister’s official residence, where they lived for 10 years.

Manmohan Singh had wisely chosen to leave the Prime Minister’s official residence immediately after demitting office to avoid a situation often seen in the past two decades when a new PM had to drive down to office at an address still occupied by his predecessor.

Sources said though there were reports of Modi moving to the official residence on Monday evening after taking oath, he left for Gujarat Bhawan. Narendra Modi has not yet moved to the Race Course Road residence and is likely to shift a few days later as the new residence is being refurbished, according to sources.
