Toronto – Google’s latest colorful doodle has marked the Winter Solstice or the first day of winter, which is the shortest day and longest night of the year.

The special doodle depicts a very colorful woolen mitten being knitted.

Solstice, which is regarded as the beginning of the winter season, occurs when the northern polar tilt of our planet’s polar hemisphere is farthest away from the sun.

The days will start getting longer for the next six months as the night gets shorter.
