Usually, there are two types of pregnancy tests. One test utilizes a urine sample and the other a sample of blood. Interestingly, both these pregnancy tests are associated with the detection of a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin also known as (HCG). This hormone is usually developed by the placenta after the embryo attaches to the uterine lining. It usually builds up rapidly in the first few days of the pregnancy. Notably, the rapid shift in the hormonal structure triggers the symptoms of pregnancy. Out of the above-mentioned two tests, the Urine Test is one of the most widely practiced tests.

What are the things you should know about urine tests?

The urine routine test can be performed in two different ways. Moreover, these can be performed at home or in a clinic. You can collect urine in a cup and dip a stick into the urine. You can also put your urine in a special container with an eyedropper. Another option is placing a stick into your urine stream and collecting your urine in mainstream.

Typically, the results of a urine routine test vary as per the waiting time. Most often, you should be on the lookout for a change in color, symbol or line. Interestingly, these days, digital pregnancy tests kits have emerged. It is one of the most preferred ways to know about pregnancy in many developed nations. But its widespread use is still limited.

When should you opt for a urine test?

As per a majority of physicians, you should wait until the first day of your missed period before opting for a pregnancy test. Typically, one should wait till two weeks after conception. But, some tests are more sensitive than the others and can be taken earlier.

The accuracy of urine tests

It is worthwhile here to note that home pregnancy tests are around 97% accurate. These tests are usually preferred by most women as they can be practiced in home. Moreover, they are affordable and you don’t have to visit a clinic for the test. But note that, if you don’t follow the instructions, the overall result can be inaccurate.

What is a triple screen pregnancy test?

A triple screen is a type of blood test which measures three things. They are the human chorionic gonadotropin, alpha-fetoprotein and the unconjugated estriol. During a triple test in pregnancy, the results derived can help the doctor to check whether your baby is at risk for specific birth related illnesses.

When should the test be carried out?

A triple test in pregnancy is most accurate if it is done between the 16th and the 18th weeks of your pregnancy. However, most doctors also opt for conducting this test between the 15th and 22nd weeks of your pregnancy.

Don’t be tensed if the results of the tests are abnormal

In case the results of this test are abnormal, don’t fret. Let the experienced doctors take care of this matter. In most situations, they would put you on medication so that the fetus can remain healthy.
