India ranked no 1 in ICC Twenty20 International Team ranking announced in Dubai on 1 May 2014. India replaced Sri Lanka from the top position. Sri Lanka earned the top position on 8 April 2014 by replacing India after defeating it in the T20 world cup 2014 in Bangladesh. In the past 12 months, India lost only one T20I match, whereas Sri Lanka lost four matches. India lost only one match against Sri Lanka in the ICC World T20 final in Bangladesh. The 2013-14 results are weighted at 100 percent whereas the results in 2011-12 and 2012-13 are now weighted at 50. Therefore, performances of Sri Lanka in earlier two years now count for less.

The West Indies have slipped two places, Australia and New Zealand slipped by one place each. Among 14 counties teams, three countries (Nepal, UAE and Hong Kong) are unranked as they have not played 8 matches (the minimum number) during the ranking period.
