Sochi 2014 : Winter Olympic walk of shame for India

The 22nd edition of the Winter Olympics open on Friday with a glittering opening ceremony at Sochi, Russia. However, for the 3 Indian participants at the Games,

it will be walk of shame in Sochi as they will not be able to wear under the Indian tricolour.

They will instead walk under the flag of the International Olympic Committee.

That’s because for more than a year now, the Indian Olympic Association remains suspended by the International Olympic Committee due to government interference in the autonomy of the country’s National Olympic Charter and the refusal of the National body to disallow tainted officials to stand in the elections.

India’s suspension though could be revoked once Sunday’s elections take place however that would not provide enough time for the suspension to be lifted. Former Olympians Ashwini Nachappa and Mansher Singh react to the scenario.
