Where To Eat In Ladakh

Potato, Beans, Pumpkins cooked with mutton and chicken is the staple Ladhaki platter. Tibetan Momos or steamed dumplings with meat or veggie filling are available in plenty here. Other popular Ladakhi dishes include the Thukpa or noodles cooked in mutton soup, skieu or veggies cooked with mutton and flour and Tsumpa or Ngampe, which is roasted barley flour.

Tea is a favorite drink with the locals. Ladkhi tea known as Gurgur Cha is a concoction of strong black tea leaves, butter and salt. You surely would have to develop a taste for it. The regular Indian tea with milk and sugar is also available. Beer or Chang is the favorite alcoholic beverage. It is made from barley and has yeast like taste.

Leh also has a number of hotels, which serve various other cuisines as well. Himalayan Cafe is a must try for Tibetan food and Shangrila is a good option for Korean food. Pumpernickel German Bakery is a good place to dig into some soft breads and cookies. Western food is available in joints on Fort Road.
