Duvet Cover

Duvet covers come in different types and patterns. They can be made at home without much trouble. Use wide fabrics. Using wide fabric will eliminate the need for seams. Use material that is easy to wash like cotton or polycotton. Sheets of these materials are easily available in a number of shades and patterns. You can select colors that either compliment the existing room décor or contrast with existing décor. You can make plain and frilled duvet covers by coordinating colors and patterns for the two sides. This way you can use both sides of the duvet. If you want to duvet to be warm then add a sheet of brushed cotton or flannel to the back of the cover.
 

Fitted Bedspread
Fitted bedspreads give a more custom made and fitted appearance than a bedspread that is just thrown over. Fitted sheets stay neat and flat even when you move about the bed in the night. This bedspread is made in two sections-the top and the skirt. The top is made to fit the bed exactly; it can be lined, quilted or interlined for warmth. The bedspread is tucked under the pillows. The skirt is not lined and covers the bed from the sides to the floor. The skirt can be completely pleated or can be pleated at the corners of the bed. If you decide to use a bed valance then you can have a short skirt and with the valance it will give you a layered appearance. Take some plain fabric and railroad it (turned through 90 degrees) and you will not need seams. When beds have corner posts, the skirt sides and ends have to be made separately. These have to be made so that they go over the legs of the bed. If they are pleated then the pleats will have to be placed in the middle.

Throwovers
The simplest bedcover is a throwover bedspread. This bedspread is a spread that covers the entire bed. It can either be tucked under the mattress or let to hang loose at the sides of the bed, down to the floor. Decorative tassels and fringes can be added to the edge to embellish the spread. This spread can be made from any kind of fabric like lightweight cotton fabric or even quilted fabric. Extra fabric is attached at the top of the spread to accommodate the pillows. You can line these sheets if you like. Select a color that will either compliment or contrast with the rest of the décor of the room.

Pillow Cases
Plain simple pillowcases are easy to make. These pillows are cut in a single piece across the width of the fabric. Fabric can be railroaded if it is not wide enough. Hem the fabric at each end and folded and stitched with an overlapping flap to keep the pillow in place. Though these pillowcases are simple they are stylish. These cases can be used with a Plain Duvet Cover.
