Festival season in Jaipur is marked with a splash of vibrant colours. Men, Women and Children adorn themselves
in new clothes and accessories. All the Hindu festivals are celebrated in Udaipur.
Festival
Mewar Festival - Celebrated in the month of April, to welcome the spring
season. The fair is characterized by the chanting of devotional songs, rendering of folk music and dance.
Age-old traditional rituals also mark the celebrations. Women dress up the idols of Isar and Gangaur and take
the deities in a religious procession through the streets of Udaipur, before immersing them amidst loud chants
and hymns in Lake Pichola.
The evening sky is lit up with spectacular fireworks.
Events
Shilpgram Fair - For ten days in December the fair that goes on at Shilpgram
or the Crafts Village enthrals tourists and locals alike. Shilpgram is located 3 kms west of Fateh Sagar Lake
and the atmosphere during these days of festivities is truly electrifying. On display are the crafts from
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra. Folk artists dancers and musicians also perform at the venue. The crafts village itself consists of 26 huts and is spread over an area of 70 acres. The fair allows for fair
trade practice since the artisans are able to showcase their art directly to the public thereby eliminating the
need for middlemen.
